Diablo 4 Item Upgrades

The upgrade of an item allows players to raise the item level for equipped items like weapons, armor and trinkets above a certain threshold. They can be done at any upgrader NPC with the appropriate currency.

Slots are used to add components to upgrade equipment in order to gain attribute bonuses and additional effects. These are mostly slot-restricted, however, there are some universal upgrades.

Rerolling

In Diablo 4, a player can reroll a item upgrade. This is accomplished by using the Level Up feature, which stops your game and shows four randomly chosen upgrades. Some of these upgrades can be transformed into gems by a jeweler. They can be used to upgrade item any trinket slot. Other upgrade components are only slotted in weapon accessories and offer a small amount of benefit without increasing damage.

Requirements

The amount of Flightstones and Crests needed to upgrade an item is determined by the level of the Item Upgrader Mod. Blizzard also sets a maximum level for upgrades. Upgrades to the highest level are expensive particularly when upgrading PvE equipment.
