3 Wheel Double Buggy

Our test participant Claire was impressed by the neat packaging that was easy to open and deemed it to be one of the quickest and easiest pieces of baby gear to put together. She took it out for a spin around the rough terrain and was extremely pleased with its performance.

Seats

The majority of 3 wheel stroller lightweight wheel double buggies are initially single pushchairs, but some can be converted to take the seat of a second person or carrycot using adapters (these are more commonly found in tandem buggies). You'll also see that some models allow you to include a ride-onboard for older children who wish to walk but still need some help.

Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for an ultra-lightweight option that is perfect for urban streets. It's easy to maneuver and comes with a large basket that has plenty of storage space. It can accommodate twins starting at birth and can accommodate two car seats or a carrycot that has a seat. However, the seats have to be facing forwards, and there's not enough space to store a bag of groceries underneath which is why you'll need a backpack for this.

If you like to take off-road trips, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good option. It's a side by side model with the most compact footprint of any double buggy on the market. This allows it to squeeze through doors that are narrow and on public transport and also allows you to go up and down kerbs with no trouble. The adjustable handlebar has an additional handbrake for safety and security.

The UPPAbaby vista 2 double is another lightweight option that can be used by twins or a baby and toddler. The seats can be reclining in multiple positions with UPF 50+ sunshades. The canopy can be adjusted so that the sun does not reach your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into triple by adding UPPAbaby's 'PiggyBack’ board for older children.

The iCandy Orange is one of the most popular double buggies that are available due to its outstanding comfort. It's a true all-terrain pushchair with soft suspension that can easily handle bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate a massive 30 seating configurations and has an integrated ride-on board that can be used for older children who prefer walking, and a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back of the seat for better visibility.

Alternatively, the phil&teds dot is a fantastic single buggy from the beginning that can then easily adapt to take 2 (or 3!) Different configurations are possible. This is especially useful if you have an infant in a car seat, as the frame can be equipped with a wedgie for optimum lying flat, or car seat adapters for various brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a double 3 wheel all terrain pushchair-wheel buggy will determine the ease with which your child/children and you can push it. A smooth ride is crucial since babies can feel every bump in the road, particularly if it's on rough terrain like grass or paths that aren't paved. Some models come with locking front tires to aid in maneuvering and navigating obstacles like curbs.

Some models use air-filled tyres which will provide a fantastic all-terrain adventure, but they could be prone to punctures therefore, make sure you have a spare set in the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres, specifically designed to handle bumps and can be less prone to punctures however, you may find them to be a bit stiff and uncomfortable for your child's back when you choose to jog.

The side-by-side is the most suitable buggy for city walks. It has a brilliant suspension system that lets you easily and comfortably navigate any terrain. You can even upgrade the duet by adding our dual kit in order to accommodate two children - all within the same footprint!

MFM reviewer Kath put the Urban Glide 2 through its tests with her infant and three years old, and found that it coped really well on difficult terrains: "it navigated effortlessly over bumpy pavements and grass, cobbles and dirt tracks easily and was able to manoeuvre around corners and go up and down kerbs. The 16" rear wheels, when combined with the lockable swivel wheels on the front, make it an extremely comfortable jogging experience. The Urban Glide 2 has a variety of features, such as an enormous seat unit that comes with padded cover, hood with 50+ UV protection, and rechargeable and easy-to use visibility lights.

Folding

A three wheel pushchair-wheel double buggy can fold up pretty easily for storage. There are models that fold flat and stand up (as as if they're in a pushchair position) and also those that pop up to reveal an umbrella-like fold that has the option of a brake operated by hand. In general, the more wheels a buggy has, the easier it will be to navigate over rough terrain. This is particularly true if your wheels are larger than the average size. You will have more stability, and it's less likely that you will have to flip or tip your child.

The iCandy Wave is a popular choice. It can be used with an infant car-seat from birth and then transformed to a double buggy after your child has reached the age of. It's a comfortable and light-feeling model, which makes it easy to push and is packed full of extra features including a bumper bar and raincover.

Another alternative is the phil&teds sports which is future-proof because it's a fantastic single buggy right from the start and then adapts to take two (or even 3!) All of this is incorporated into its small 3 wheel stroller footprint. It features an innovative three-wheel design that includes an sling to improve manoeuvrability and stability.

This is one of the most comfortable double buggies to jog in with your kids. It comes with an adjustable front wheel that locks, which can help you keep your balance on hilly or off-road terrain. It features a big undercarriage, an adjustable handlebar, and soft suspension that gives you a comfortable ride.

It's a light, compact 3 wheel stroller option that folds using just one hand. It's perfect for travel. It's compatible with a variety of infant car seats, and has a handy undercarriage basket to store shopping. It's a bit on the costly side, but has some distinctive features that make it an excellent price, including its easy one-click fold and lots of extras like a bumper bar and raincover.

Storage

Many are awed by the capacity of storage offered by a triple-wheeled buggy. Some models, such as the Roma Atlas, have a large basket and two zip pockets on the hood where you can store your phone and keys. It's also designed to cope with slightly rough terrain so it's a great option for family walks or all-terrain strolls.

Other models, like the UPPAbaby Vista 2, offer plenty of space and the flexibility to transport twins or a toddler and a child. (This is possible thanks to their 'PiggyBack board'). It's the smallest side-byside double available. It also has some amazing technology, like LED lights for visibility which are located on both sides of its frame to ensure safety in low-light conditions.

The Joie Evalite Duo, a stroller that is light enough to accommodate twins from birth, and is world-facing with a lie-flat position it's a different kind of stroller. Its clever frame expands to accommodate an extra seat, but it weighs only 11kg. This makes it simple to lift and move. It can be used with an infant car seat, a carrycot or both. This lets you have the best of both worlds.
