The ability to upgrade items allows players to enhance their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, increasing its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory and access the kiln.

Usually, items with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base, while items with strong bases like Eth titans don't change in their stats following being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into weapons, armor, trinkets and gathering tools, giving an added bonus or effect while the equipment is in use. They can be bought from vendors, found in loot, thrown away by enemies, or obtained as rewards from missions or chests. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain point before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade an item of armor, the player has to select it, and then click on the Upgrade button located in the toolbar. The screen will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview that shows the expected upgrade statistics and the required component or materials.

There are three kinds of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, such as gems, can be placed on any type of equipment. They provide a smaller bonus than upgrade components that are subject to a type restriction. Infusions, which can only be placed in gear that is ascended and legendary equipment are exactly the same as jewels but have higher bonuses and are not able to be placed in any other type of equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add a suffix at the end of item names. For instance adding the suffix Glyph would make the staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools when a player swaps one glyph with a different one the previous glyph will be returned to the inventory. However replacing any other upgrade component will damage it, with the exception of the inscriptions that can be swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important variations from earlier versions. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can be upgraded a set number of times before being "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level, but the required materials aren't as high. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a select few items and maximize the impact of those items, instead of dispersing upgrade costs across multiple pieces.

This allows the item to receive new Upgrade Item components, and have a greater chance of success. This bonus is referred to as the Artisan's Power and it resets to 0 on failure or increases when the upgrade succeeds.

Once a piece of gear is upgraded to its maximum level it can be eligible to gain affixes which will increase its features. The number of affixes that are available is contingent on the item's base type. For example an uncommon or exclusive weapon that has a standard base will have only two affixes, whereas a legend armor will have eight affixes.

Each upgrade requires a certain number of Flightstones and crests based on the current level of the item and the slot it's in. Weapons will typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item doesn't attain its maximum level, the NPC offers players the option to transfer it to a different character and then re-infuse it with a new set or upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and will cost the same amount of materials, though it will have a lower chance of success.

To measure the height of a building, engineers will employ a level to compare the measurement with an established reference point, such as a benchmark or the elevation of the ground. This is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings with the level, backsighting rod and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method ensures that buildings are built to a high level of safety and accuracy.

Rerolling

Rerolling refers to the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. It is a crucial part of the game, and it can boost the strength, damage, or other attributes. This can be done via the item menu or by using the Reroll button on an upgraded item. Rerolling items can be costly and should be done sparingly.

The game lets players recycle upgraded items, and use them to acquire tokens for rerolls. These tokens can then be used to upgrade the original item upgrading or an item of the same type. Recyclable items come with a gauge that shows the degree of upgrade. The amount of level that has been filled is based on the rarity and cost of upgrading of the Best item upgrade.

Prior to this, certain upgrade items were given priority affixes that made them easier to roll. This meant that you'd receive the stats that mattered most to your build more often than others. These included things such as the armor's total armor, thorns and duration reduction stats that are controlled or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.

This has changed since the last patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same chance of rolling for all stats. This can be either good or bad, depending on what you're looking for and want from your equipment.

Each upgraded item upgrade may also come with a unique, fixed-value bonus that increases its power by a specific percentage. These bonuses are rolled in addition to the standard affixes. The more you upgrade your product, the higher your chances of receiving a unique bonus.

The game also includes various sets which grant a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are equipped on an item. This is a great way to add a lot of power to a character without spending lots of money.

Many players reroll their weapons and gear particularly in the initial stages. This is because rerolling could provide a much faster path to a powerful character which allows them to achieve high tiers and progress the game faster.

Sets

Sets are collections of elements that can be arranged in a variety of ways. They can be of different dimensions, have no elements, or only have a single element. They can be utilized to organize data or to sort information. They also aid in analyzing patterns. Sets can be classified in many ways, such as by size and shape.

There are a range of set items to upgrade in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Some items are worth upgrading, while others aren't. Sets of armor that offer high defense values or set bonuses are generally worth upgrading. However, most upgrades to weapons don't improve the quality of the item's stats when as compared to their purple counterparts. This makes them less attractive to upgrade when your collection of weapons and armor pieces is already huge.

Set items can be upgraded to include special procs that are useful for certain builds. This is evident in Aldur's Advance Boots and Guillaume's Face. Both were upgraded to Exceptional Winged Helms and Exceptional Mirrored Boots, respectively. This increased their defense from 217 to 321. (Strength requirements and Level requirements also increased).

Upgrades can also be done to bring certain items to par with the levels. For instance the Immortal King set has a large level range, from 29 to 76. Upgrades to lower-level items of the set can boost their defense and make them more competitive in terms of damage.

Clicking the Upgrade button will show the attributes of the item as well as the required items to upgrade it. The attributes of the item will be displayed together with any required items. For instance, the No-mouth Face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials, 250 Enchanted Dust, and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. Players can also verify the upgrade requirements for specific items at the Cyrodiil Golden vendor or Leaderboard.

Generally speaking, weapons and jewelry offer greater value for trading when fully upgraded than armor. Especially for weapons that have damage glyphs that are spell-like or weapon-related and are upgraded to gold is recommended because it will result in a significant increase in their power. Weapons with an upgraded appearance will benefit from this upgrade because its defense will increase when it goes from purple to gold.
