Combining form and function, French-door refrigerators offer stylish double doors that open to an enormous fridge on top and freezer drawer below. These refrigerators stand out due to their distinctive features, such as door-to-door dispensers and more expensive Ice makers.

We contacted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects - for her tips on how to select the right one. They looked at storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency, among other features.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As the name suggests, GE's Profile series targets those who want to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into their kitchen. This refrigerator has it all including a Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door to a smart dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive and I expected more.

This refrigerator is a good choice, despite the small blip. It has a large french style fridge freezer freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Additionally, it can hold a decent amount of frozen food compared to similar models.

The fridge has 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is about the same as a french door fridge freezer no plumbing door fridge costing this much. It also has an adequate-sized icemaker in the left-hand door, although it's not the biggest I've seen.

You can adjust the shelves in both compartments to make an individual storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is good-looking, too. The LED lighting is a nice accent. The bins for storage inside come with a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall items. The drawers have temperature controls that allow you to set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. The drawers are easy to open and shut, but I found the textured plastic coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a full suite of features you'd expect from a fridge at this price that includes Wi-Fi as well as app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and lets you control your refrigerator from anywhere across the globe. It also offers numerous options for customizing. It will also send notifications when the door is left unlocked, when the freezer or fridge requires defrosting, and when the filter has to be changed.

It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill which is an option that is available in a handful of other GE fridges that allow you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to disperse simultaneously. The fridge displays a countdown to show you how much water is left, but it's not as helpful as Precise fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The Bosch french freezer door refrigerator-door Refrigerator is an impressive product. It's designed to appear like a seamless piece of your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also boasts a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher longer and has dual compressors to ensure maximum preservation of food. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient and produces the shape of a pyramid using only water. This refrigerator is a great choice for single household or kitchenettes that want a sleek design and top of the line food preservation.

This fridge was rated the top in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained constant at just above 0°F and never changed more than a tiny fraction - this is crucial to prevent freezing burn. The fridge section of the fridge also performed well. It reached the temperature it was set within an hour and maintained that temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is a household name for its high-end appliances. It's therefore no surprise that Bosch counter depth refrigerator is one of them. Bosch counter depth refrigerator can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's platform Home Connect. This app lets you monitor and control your fridge remotely from your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is costly, but offers great features and functionality at a reasonable cost.

While the fridge is a fantastic piece of equipment, it's important to know the limitations. It is possible to be creative with tall items because the fridge has a small shelf space. The shelves are also not resistant to spills and are easily stained or damaged by sharp objects. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs a lot of storage space into a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge features the standard gumtree french door fridge-door layout, with gallon-sized door bins at each door, two rows of shelves that capture spills and a set more spacious drawers. The top shelf on the right side can be folded in order to create more space for taller items. There's also a full-width storage drawer for food items and an internal water dispenser.

The refrigerator comes with an ice maker making it easy to transfer the frozen ice as needed. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, for instance, sliding drawers to help you better organize the placement of items. It has a large bin for storing frozen food, and a separate bin for ice.

Another cool feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can control the temperature, lighting, and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a simple method to keep track of your refrigerator and manage it, especially when you're away from home.

But while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't add to the overall performance of the refrigerator. The fridge took a bit longer to defrost food and chill it than other models we test. This could be due to its larger capacity.

Another issue with the doors of this refrigerator. The handles that are sunken let shorter people open them from the bottom. However, taller people still struggle to close them without slamming. It would have been more effective if they had handles mounted on the front.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent choice for those looking to combine the look of a French door refrigerator with more efficient design. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also a little cheaper than the top counter-depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which can make it a desirable choice.

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good option for those looking for a French-door fridge that won't break the budget. It's a simple fridge that might not be as eye-catching like some of its competitors, but it still has enough features to make a an excellent option. Its most important feature, the adjustable temperature drawer helps to keep food items like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser and a decent ice machine that works fast.

The "Chill Drawer", which sits above the two crisper bins, is a excellent feature. This drawer lets you use the majority of the fridge's cooling power into the area so it can be used to store food items that require extra attention. You can adjust this feature by using a slider that's located right on the outside of the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've found that the general settings are more effective than the specific ones.

During my tests, the temperature of the refrigerator were fairly constant across the different areas of the refrigerator. Temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary significantly from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. This is a pretty good performance however it doesn't rank among the best in our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to an intelligent thermometer to get more precise measurements of your fridge's internal temperature.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless that has a "smudge proof" finish. It repels fingerprints and streaks better than other stainless steel finishes I've tried.
