What is an Item Upgrader in Pokemon Go?

The item upgrader adds a brand new widget at the top of the Angel and Cash Upgrade windows. The Manager is priced at 33 billion Angel Investors, and has no other benefit to the game, aside from making it easier to purchase upgrades.

Boosts

Some of these boosts are beneficial in certain builds (such as Whistan's shield in FB sorcs) while others could provide an enormous amount of value to specific collectors.

Some items have a built-in boos which is less useful when upgraded. For example the Goldwrap has an extra potion slots. These are often upgraded to add more value to a nearly perfect item.

Costs

There are a few costs that are associated with upgrades to items. The first is the upgrade itself. The cost for this upgrade can be costly and depends on the new value of the item upgrading and the number of perks it gets. Upgrades to a higher level (such as Explorer to Champion or Veteran to Heroic) can be expensive.

The second is the cost of the materials needed for an upgrade. The items used are typically either Power Dices (dropped by monsters 21+) or Minerals and Erons (obtainable by completing certain Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor quests). The amount of these items required is available in the inventory of an upgrade vendor.

It takes time to upgrade an item. It could take as long as 8 hours, depending on the magnitude of the upgrade. The upgraded item's base stats are calculated using the item's new ilvl bonus, perks, as well as other properties. This calculation determines new Armor Class bonuses, damage dice, as well as other important statistics. In certain cases, the upgrade will grant additional advantages that can be picked from a list of available benefits.

It will let you upgrade that piece of equipment to the next level without worrying about it breaking.

If an upgrade is unsuccessful it will be restored to its original state. This is typically a downgrade, but could also be an upgrade. Keep an upgrade in reserve until you are nearing the maximum level of an item.

There are several items in the Kafra shop that can be used to increase the odds of a successful upgrade. You can increase your chances of success by upgrading equipment multiple times with HD Oridecon and HD Elunium. In the same way, increasing the likelihood to receive a Double Mint from Shoe-Minting a maximum of five times will improve the chances of success.

Failure Rate

The upgrader for items allows players to add an extra slot to their equipment. These slots can be used to apply an enhancement or enchantment on an item.
