World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

For instance an item with the upgrade template that ends in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level increases.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a particular kind of upgrade component that is that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment and some of the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade could be prefixed or a suffix changing the name of the item to the upgrade (for examplethe 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions using fewer Upgrade crystals than they would need to reach the same level with normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them in the cash shop or by getting them from enemies while upgrading other gear.

The player is able to have a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will drop in the next reset. This gives players the opportunity to upgrade their gear, even when they're not sure what can be improved upon the reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be expensive and it is likely that the item will be obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that double or even eliminate possibility of failure, and a few upgrades that give an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs increase the power of all nodes in a radius around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in various ways, and we recommend getting them to level 15 whenever you can.

In the final game you'll often discover that the most effective way to upgrade your equipment is to use Glyphs. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded up to level 15 and provide a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced, however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restriction. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and re-placed with the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values can enhance a stat by. The value is displayed when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the many Glyphs as well as some rare glyphs that can be found as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens to be able to do so.
